I’m a huge fan of Doctor Who so when it came time to make a endless runner my mind immediately went to episode Flesh and Stone where the doctor’s companion runs through a rainforest built on a spaceship. I love the aesthetic created by blending natural elements with an modern industrial setting.
The Inspiration
I’m really proud of the achievement system I built for this game. It uses scriptable objects and allows designers to easily create their own achievements in any of 5 categories without writing any additional code. Simply fill in the details and specify the type and magnitude of the achievement you want to create and the scriptable objects will do the rest.
The game randomly generates terrain of any of three platform types for a new, fun and exciting experience every time. The game contains randomly spawning coins and fully animated butterflies that spawn and move according to trigonometric functions and 3D math concepts.
Flesh and Stone was made over the course of two weeks during Game Tech 1. Projects from Game Tech 1 aren’t published due to the timeline. This was a solo project and I made all the art myself. I’m a programmer so please focus on the coding elements rather than the horrible animations.
The sound is a haunting original track by Champlain alumni and student emmy award winning sound designer Shirley Reid ( frostwaterfilm.com) who also happens to be my mom. She is available for hire if you need fantastic original soundscapes.
